The Best Kettle for Arthritic Hands
The 12th of October is World Arthritis Day. A day made to help raise awareness around this disease. A disease that is in fact quite close to home for us here at Uccello Designs.
You see, it was actually because of arthritis that our founder and creator Andy developed and produced the Uccello Kettle. Andy was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis which is an autoimmune disease. It made using the kettle and other items around the kitchen difficult and painful to use.
Understanding Arthritis
The word ”Arthritis” literally means inflammation in the joints. Arthritis affects over 900,000 people in Ireland today, making it the single biggest cause of disability.
Understanding the disease can help with its treatment, management, and how best to act next.
What is Psoriatic Arthritis?
This form of the disease is an inflammatory one that can cause pain, swelling, and sometimes damage to joints in the body. It is quite a rare form of arthritis. 1 in 50 people have psoriasis and up to one-third of them develop psoriatic arthritis.
There are over 100 types of arthritis. The most common forms are Osteoarthritis (OA) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (Rheumatic Arthritis/RA). While there are many various types, most of them share symptoms such as pain, fatigue, and inflammation.
What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?
There is a common misconception about this form. Many believe that you can only get rheumatoid arthritis when you get older. However, the average age of diagnosis is 35.
This form is known as an autoimmune disorder and this means that your own immune system makes a mistake and attacks its own bodies tissue. This then results in bone erosion and joint deformity.
What is Osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis more often than not develops in those over 50. This form is not like rheumatoid arthritis as it affects your cartilage.
It causes the cartilage in your joints to become stiff and it can lose its elasticity. In some cases, the cartilage can be worn away completely.
This can result in pain, inflammation, stiffness, and overall, decrease your level of mobility.
Why Our Uccello Kettle is the Best Kettle for Arthritic Hands
Thanks to the psoriatic arthritis, Andy suffered badly with his hands and found it near impossible to fill and lift a normal kettle for his coffee each morning.
Frustrated with this, he went looking for solutions for the home and investigated the daily living aids in the market to see if it would make his daily tasks easier to manage.
When it came to kettles there was nothing, so Andy took it upon himself to change that.
And he did, we now have the Uccello Kettle. Specially designed to restore independence for those like Andy who have limited or restricted strength, mobility, and dexterity.
With our kettle, you get a kettle and a tipper in one. It has a modern design, it’s easy to use and you won’t feel any pain with its tilt to pour action.
This is why our Uccello Kettle truly is the best kettle for those with arthritic hands.
