In life, there are no shortcuts, no fast forward button or skip option. No, we need to put in the hard work and the time for something that is worth while like our health and wellbeing. Anything worth while is worth doing.
While focusing on a healthier lifestyle can be tricky and hard to get into, we have come up with 5 simple health tips to help you break the journey in manageable bite size steps. Our tips will help you break some bad habits and adopt new ones. Overtime you will realize that you have an effortlessly healthier lifestyle.
Say No to Pain
Sadly for so many people, pain is a part of their every day. Especially for those who live with arthritis, fibromyalgia or other chronic conditions.
One of the first tips we can share about getting a healthier lifestyle is saying no to the pain. Pain should not be a part of life and if it is, it should be stamped out quickly. It’s time to work with others to find the best solution for you. Whether its with your doctor on pain relief or trying home remedies such as rest, massage, yoga or careful exercise.
Relish Your Me-Time
Many seem to overlook the importance of ‘me-time‘. They would see it as indulgent or unnecessary. This is untrue. No matter how fast-paced your life is, you need to make time for yourself. Whether its by enjoying a favored hobby, a little TV or even having 20 winks in your favourite arm chair.
Doing something that makes you happy can have amazing affects on your outlook as well as your overall health and well being.
Snack Smarter
Personally, I am all for the sweet snacks and few little sweet treats but sadly all those calories can add up. Sadly, those sweet treats are not the best for a healthy body. If you are able to make a few small changes here and there, your body will thank you. Try swapping to the zero or diet versions of soft drinks or avoiding certain ones altogether. Less salt, sugar and fat in your diet can make a world of difference.
Of course, there are no guarantee’s that you will lose weight but you will feel better and certainly have more energy.
Time To Move
For some of us, the mere thought of getting up and moving can be daunting but taking it one small step at a time can make it that bit easier.
I’m not saying you need to sign up for the local walking club or hit the gym 3-5 times a week. Start at a pace that best suits you. We’ve spoken in the past about how exercise can actually help those living with arthritis, it can help with stiff muscles and inflammation in the joints by getting the heart pumping and blood moving.
Whether it’s yoga in the sitting room, a short walk around the estate or a swim, it can all help to get the blood flowing and bring with it a less painful and more active lifestyle.
Mother Nature Knows Best
Ireland isn’t known for it’s tropical weather so when the sun is out, it is always great to sit and enjoy it (safely of course). A bit of sunshine is beneficial for body and mind. When our skin absorbs the sun, your body makes its own vitamin D, a crucial nutrient that is needed to help the body absorb calcium, promote a healthy nervous, immune and muscular system.
Get out into nature! Walk the dog, go for a picnic or take a stroll in the local park or forest.
There are countless tips we could share for a healthier lifestyle but the 5 above should help you get started, so pop the kettle on, have a read and remember, one step at a time is always the best way to go.
